Junghans watches are real masterpieces. This applies especially to the wristwatches of the Junghans Meister line: the movement of every single Junghans Meister watch actually is a real "master"-piece. The name of the collection derives from the masterful movements that have always been used. They point to the roots of Junghans and show the enormous know-how in mechanical watchmaking. But the design for example of the first-class Junghans Meister automatic watches and Junghans Meister chronographs has also set standards. From the thirties to the sixties, the visionary Anton Ziegler was responsible for the unique appearance of the exclusive ladies' and men's watches. The current Junghans Meister watches refer to Ziegler's characteristic design language and thus impressively continue a long history of success.
Still today, everyone at Junghans speaks of Anton Ziegler full of appreciation. This is by no means surprising. Because the great "watch architect", that's his internal honorary title, had been responsible for the unique appearance of Junghans watches over many decades since the 30s. He developed a completely independent, unmistakable design language. The distinctive appearance of his creations deeply influenced the Junghans style and still has a crucial effect on the designs of new collections.
Quality "Made in Germany" – made by a master hand. Anton Ziegler himself surely would have formulated the motto that was decisive for him and his work at least in a similar way. And that is why until today the unofficial motto for the outstanding wristwatches of the "Junghans Meister" series is exactly the same. Not least, the watches should be understood as a tribute to Ziegler's historical achievements and the consistent further development of his heritage.
In this regard, particular attention is paid to the creative balance and harmonious proportions of the dials of men's and ladies' watches. Quite true to the postulate of Anton Ziegler that the proportions of the dial elements would always have to fit together and would have to be well-balanced so that an appealing watch could ever be created.
The movement created by the Junghans designers with the calibre J88 was also built in a well- balanced way. It is undoubtedly one of those "master-(watch-)works" to which the "Meister" line originally owes its name. The movement was used in the Junghans pilot watches of the 50s. In 1955, the German armed forces, which had just been re-established, were looking for a suitable, precise watch for their pilots. Junghans was awarded the contract and then produced a legendary aviator chronograph with an extremely distinctive, dodecagonal bezel.
When the age of quartz watches began in the 1970s, Junghans stopped the production of watches of the "Meister" line for an indefinite period of time. Their spectacular revival took place in 2011. On the occasion of its 150th anniversary, Junghans presented limited special editions of the series "Meister Chronoscope" and "Meister Chronometer".
Today, the "Junghans Meister" collection includes a wide variety of different types of watches in various designs: for example, "Meister Handaufzug" men's watches with small second, "Meister Classic" automatic watches with glass case back or "Meister Agenda" business watches with their particularly elegant design.
Furthermore, for example "Meister Telemeter" chronographs with tachymeter scale, "Meister Pilot" aviator watches with nostalgic optics and fascinating chrono sub-dials, "Meister Driver" ladies' and men's watches with a sporty vintage look and design details of classic cars or "Meister Kalender" watches with moon phase display.
